This is What the Cast of Vikings Look like in Real Life

Vikings is a historical drama television series written and created by Michael Hirst for the History channel. Inspired by the sagas of Danish Viking Ragnar Lothbrok – one of the best-known legendary Norse heroes and notorious as the scourge of England and France – the cast of Vikings look very different in real life. Here are some of our favorite cast members. Keep reading and see what they really look like.

Gustaf Skarsgård – Flóki

Gustaf Caspar Orm Skarsgård is among the rare true Scandinavians on the show. The actor’s father is Stellan Skarsgård, known for his role of Professor Gerald Lambeau in Good Will Hunting and Bootstrap Bill Turner in Pirates of the Carribean movies, among other titles.

Unlike Flóki, Gustaf prefers clean shave to a beard and looks professionally in real life, much like the rest of his family.

Maude Hirst – Helga

Maude Hirst shines in the role of Helga, wife of boatbuilder Flóki. We saw Her first in the historical drama The Tudors.

Maude is the daughter of writer and producer Michael Hirst, who actually worked on Vikings. She doesn’t credit him for her acting career.

Katheryn Winnick- Lagertha

Lagertha is a famous shield maiden who could fight alongside any male counterpart and is adept in battle. She was the first wife of King Ragnar. She known to be vicious and conniving against her enemies, so you should rather stay in the friendly zone and don’t mass with her.

Katheryn Winnick is an established Canadian actress who has starred in many movie roles such as on Killers, and The Art of the Stead and A Glimpse Inside the Mind of Charles Swan III. Entertainment Weekly declared that her role as “Lagertha” may be the most exciting feminist character on TV.

Travis Fimmel – Ragnar Lothbrok

Ragnar beat King Siward in a combat, earning the name Lothbrok. He was the one to lead the first ever Viking raid on England.

Travis was Tarzan in Tarzan, Anduin Lothar in Warcraft: The Beginning and McQueen Oodie in The Baytown Outlaws.

Alyssa Sutherland – Queen Aslaug

The role of Queen Aslaug enabled Alyssa Sutherland to stand out among other characters. She looks quite different from everybody else on the show.

Alyssa started her modeling career in Australia and was quickly featured in Cadbury’s “Flake Girl” advertising campaign. Her acting careers included smaller roles in The Devil Wears Prada and Day on Fire before she appeared on Vikings.

Besides the medieval clothes and the crown, Roache looks nearly identical to the character he portrays, King Ecbert.

Roache got a nomination for a Golden Globe Award for his portrayal of Robert F. Kennedy in RFK. He won a Best Supporting Actor Satellite Award for the role of Ralph Wigram in Gathering Storm.

Moe Dunford – Aethelwulf

Irish actor Moe Dunford got the role of the English Prince Aethelwulf. He was given a light makeover which includes darker hair and beard.

Dunford has had roles in Gridlock and Patrick’s Day. For the latter, he won an IFTA for Best Actor in a Lead Role in Film.

George Blagden – Athelstan

On Vikings, George Blagden plays the holy man Athelstan, knowledgeable about Christianity and Norse paganism.

We previously saw the actor in Les Misérables as Grantaire. That part brought him and his colleagues a National Board of Review Award for Best Cast, a Satellite Award for Best Cast in a Motion Picture and a Washington D.C. Area Film Critics Association Award for Best Ensemble.

John Kavanagh – The Seer

Kavanagh looks unrecognizable in his role of The Seer, as he has no eyes, always wears a hood, and is often seen in a dark hut on the show.

We know Siggy as the wife of the late Earl Haraldson, former chief of the Vikings in Kattegat. She is a manipulative character but was a loyal wife.

Ida Nielsen – Margrethe

Margrethe was a slave in Kattegat. she was shared by the four sons of Ragnar (the King of the Danes) and was a lover to each of them except for Ivar. She later marry Ubbe, the son of Ragnar, who frees her from slavery.
